King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) recognizes the importance of minimizing food waste as part of its sustainability commitment. Although formal measurement systems are currently being developed, the university has initiated periodic assessments to estimate the amount of food waste generated across campus dining facilities.
Based on an internal assessment in 2024, KMUTNB estimated that approximately 1.2–1.5 tons of food waste were generated per month across its main campus canteens, which serve around 18,000–22,000 meals daily. This corresponds to an average of 5–10% of the total food prepared — consistent with international benchmarks for university campuses.
The university is now working toward implementing a digital food waste tracking system and awareness campaigns to promote waste reduction among students, staff, and vendors. Collaboration with the Office of Physical Resources and Environment is ongoing to establish more accurate monitoring and composting practices.
