Cooperation on Water Security

Cooperation on Water Security

KMUTNB recognizes that achieving long-term water sustainability requires collaboration among multiple stakeholders. The university will actively promote cooperation on water security through partnerships with government agencies, local communities, academic institutions, and private sectors to strengthen the resilience of water systems within and beyond the campus. This cooperation aims to ensure reliable access to clean water, effective water resource management, and protection against water-related risks such as droughts and pollution.

KMUTNB will participate in joint research projects and knowledge-sharing programs focused on water conservation technologies, wastewater treatment, and climate-resilient water infrastructure. The university will also collaborate with local authorities and community organizations in monitoring water quality and managing nearby water bodies, such as canals and drainage systems, to prevent contamination and support ecosystem health.

In addition, seminars, training sessions, and public outreach activities will be organized to raise awareness of water security challenges and promote responsible water use among students, staff, and the surrounding community. KMUTNB will include cooperation outcomes and progress reports in its annual Green University and SDG performance reports, demonstrating the university’s contribution to national and regional water security initiatives.

For example:

  • The research project titled “Resilient Urban Centres and Surrounds”, with Assistant Professor Dr. Kamonat Meethavorn serving as a co-researcher, is funded by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. This project focuses on collaborative management of floods and droughts in the border areas (9C-9T) between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Thailand.
  •  Assistant Professor Dr. Peeraphong Pruangsongthong, Deputy Dean for Research and Development of the Faculty of Applied Science at King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB), together with Associate Professor Dr. Suratna Sangnun, Head of the Department of Mathematics, and faculty members, visited the Hydro Informatics Institute (Public Organization) (HII) to study and observe its operations. The visit aimed to receive recommendations for curriculum development to improve and tailor programs to target professional groups and to foster future research and innovation. Dr. Suthat Visakul, Director of the Hydro Informatics Institute, welcomed the delegation. The group toured the exhibition “From Sky through Mountains to the Great River” and explored HII’s innovations, including automatic meteorological and water-level monitoring stations, High Performance Computing systems, and participated in meetings to listen to lectures, exchange ideas on curriculum development, and discuss potential collaborative initiatives.
