Employment Practice Unions

KMUTNB recognizes that freedom of association and collective bargaining are fundamental rights for all employees. The University affirms that every member of its workforce—including regular, contract, part‑time, international staff, and female employees—has the right to join employee representative bodies of their choice, free from discrimination, coercion or reprisal. The University will engage in good‑faith negotiations with duly constituted employee unions or representatives on relevant matters of employment terms, working conditions, remuneration, benefits, workplace health & safety, and professional development.

KMUTNB is committed to ensuring that its human resources policies, practices, and agreements respect the rights of unions and representatives to meet, organise and communicate with their members, without interference, while also maintaining the operational needs and mission of the University. The University will provide channels for collective dialogue and consultation on workplace issues and changes affecting employees, including but not limited to restructuring, reclassification, or major policy changes. The University will ensure transparency in these processes and will not discriminate or retaliate against any employee for participating in union activities or exercising their rights of representation.

The Human Resources Department in consultation with the International Office will work to ensure that all staff—domestic and international—are informed of their rights regarding union membership, representation and collective bargaining. They will provide materials in accessible forms and languages as appropriate. KMUTNB will monitor compliance with this policy periodically, ensuring unions or staff associations have access to fair representation and that collective agreements reached are implemented in a timely manner. This policy underscores KMUTNB’s commitment to fostering a collaborative, inclusive and respectful workplace environment aligned with the principles of decent work and social dialogue under Sustainable Development Goal 8.
