King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) is committed to promoting food security and sustainable agriculture to ensure access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food for all. The university implements initiatives such as affordable meal programs, food donation campaigns, and community gardens to support students and nearby communities in achieving self-sufficiency. KMUTNB also collaborates with government agencies, local farmers, and research institutions to develop innovative technologies that enhance agricultural productivity and resource efficiency. Through research, academic services, and community engagement, the university contributes to strengthening local food systems, raising awareness of sustainable consumption, and supporting national and global efforts to end hunger and malnutrition.
KMUTNB is committed to promoting sustainability and supporting local economic development through responsible and ethical procurement practices. The University places priority on the purchase of products and services from local suppliers such as in Bangkok and Nonthaburi provinces, community enterprises, and environmentally responsible producers. This initiative aims to minimize environmental impact, strengthen the local economy, and encourage a culture of sustainable consumption within the university community.
To achieve these goals, KMUTNB encourages the procurement of goods and services that are locally sourced, sustainably produced, and environmentally friendly. Preference is given to suppliers within the province or nearby regions, particularly those certified for sustainable or green production. Vendors are encouraged to adopt environmentally responsible practices, such as reducing waste, improving energy efficiency, and minimizing packaging. Procurement documents and bidding processes will integrate sustainability criteria, and the University will regularly review procurement lists to identify opportunities to replace non-sustainable products with locally produced alternatives.
In line with this policy, KMUTNB implements several key activities to strengthen its sustainable procurement practices. Training workshops will be conducted for procurement officers, faculty, and administrative staff to enhance their understanding of sustainable purchasing and supplier evaluation. The University will also establish a local vendor engagement program by organizing exhibitions and fairs that connect eco-friendly local producers with university departments.
KMUTNB will collaborate with local cooperatives, community enterprises, and small and medium-sized businesses to supply office materials, souvenirs, food, and event services. An annual monitoring and reporting system will be established to assess and document the proportion of local and sustainable procurement, with results published in the University’s sustainability report. Finally, awareness
campaigns will be launched to encourage staff and students to understand the social, economic, and environmental benefits of supporting local and sustainable products, reinforcing KMUTNB’s commitment to building a more resilient and sustainable society.
