Policy on Plastic Waste Reduction
King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) is committed to promoting environmental sustainability through an active Plastic Waste Reduction Policy across all campuses. This policy aims to minimize the generation of single-use plastics and promote the use of environmentally friendly alternatives among students, staff, and visitors. The university has implemented measures such as discouraging plastic bags, bottles, and food containers within canteens and convenience stores, and encouraging the use of reusable cups, utensils, and refillable water bottles.
KMUTNB’s faculties and administrative divisions collaborate to integrate waste reduction education into academic and extracurricular activities. Campaigns such as “KMUTNB Plastic-Free Campus” and “Green Events” are organized to raise awareness and promote behavioral change. The university also provides clearly labeled waste separation bins to facilitate recycling and reduce landfill contributions. Procurement policies prioritize vendors and suppliers that use biodegradable or recyclable packaging materials. Through these concerted efforts, KMUTNB strives to create a culture of sustainability and environmental responsibility among the university community.
Policy on Hazardous Waste Disposal
KMUTNB enforces a strict Hazardous Waste Disposal Policy to ensure that all hazardous materials generated from laboratories, research facilities, and industrial operations are handled, stored, and disposed of in accordance with national regulations and environmental safety standards. All hazardous waste—including chemical solvents, heavy metals, biological materials, and electronic waste—is segregated at the source, clearly labeled, and stored in designated containment areas under the supervision of trained personnel.
The university’s Environmental and Safety Division (ESD) coordinates the collection and transfer of hazardous waste to licensed disposal contractors certified by the Department of Industrial Works (DIW). Regular inspections and record-keeping ensure traceability and accountability at every stage of the disposal process. Training sessions on safe handling, emergency response, and waste minimization are conducted for laboratory technicians, faculty members, and students. Furthermore, KMUTNB emphasizes waste reduction at the source by encouraging the use of non-toxic or less hazardous alternatives in teaching and research activities. The policy aligns with KMUTNB’s sustainability goals and Green University commitments, ensuring that hazardous waste management supports the protection of human health, environmental integrity, and community well-being.
