Local Education Programmes on Climate: Raising Awareness on Climate Change Risks and Actions

King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) actively promotes climate literacy and community engagement through local education programmes and public awareness campaigns focused on climate change risks, mitigation, and adaptation. The university collaborates with local government agencies, schools, and community organizations to organize workshops, exhibitions, and training sessions that highlight the causes and impacts of climate change on local ecosystems and livelihoods.

Educational activities include seminars on greenhouse gas reduction, sustainable energy practices, waste management, and disaster preparedness, as well as demonstrations of renewable energy technologies and low-carbon innovations developed by KMUTNB researchers. These initiatives aim to enhance understanding among students, teachers, and community members about how to reduce their environmental footprint and build climate resilience.

In addition, KMUTNB integrates climate education into academic curricula and student projects, encouraging innovation in adaptation technologies and community-based sustainability solutions. Public outreach campaigns are also conducted through social media and local events to promote early warning awareness and empower communities to take proactive action in responding to climate-related risks.

For example:

Workshop on Climate Change and Sustainable Development: On February 8, 2024, the Department of Civil Engineering Education, Faculty of Technical Education, King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB), organized a field visit for fourth-year students to a Green Building. The group was warmly welcomed and guided by the President of the Council of Engineers and a team of experienced lecturers. The visit aimed to provide students with a deeper understanding of the design and operation of green buildings, emphasizing energy efficiency and the use of environmentally friendly materials to promote the development of sustainable cities. This activity is part of the teaching and learning process that focuses on enhancing students’ knowledge and skills, enabling them to apply sustainable engineering principles effectively in their future civil engineering careers in alignment with international standards.
