Student Food Insecurity Alleviation Programme

Student Food Insecurity Alleviation Programme

King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) recognises that access to basic necessities — including safe drinking water — is a key component of student food security and overall well-being. To address the risk of student hunger and nutrition insecurity, the university supports initiatives that reduce the day-to-day burden of essential needs. For example, the Institute of Computer and Information Technology (ICIT) provides free drinking water services at key student-use locations (e.g. floors 3 and 5, Finn Space) to help mitigate the cost of daily sustenance and support students’ capacity to focus on their studies without undue financial strain. Additionally, in several faculties in KMUTNB provide a minibar in common areas for students and staffs to grab-and-go snacks and foods as giveaway and sharing. We set up the common fridges in canteen areas to let students and staffs to share foods to reduce food waste and secure food needs to our members.

Building on this foundation, KMUTNB is developing a broader programme to reduce food insecurity by offering on-campus meal subsidies, emergency food assistance or food pantry spaces, in tandem with awareness campaigns to identify and support students who face risk of hunger
